Privacy Policy

The short version: Your emails are processed directly by OpenAI using your own API key. We see none of it. Your CRM and task data lives in your browser only. We have no servers and collect no personal data.

1. Overview

AI Email Chain is a Gmail Chrome extension that helps you draft replies, log contacts, and create tasks. Privacy is central to how this extension is built — we do not operate servers, we do not collect data, and your email content never passes through us.

2. Email Content and AI Processing

When you use the AI draft reply feature, the extension reads the following from the currently open Gmail message:

The email subject line
The sender's name and email address
The body text of the most recent message in the thread

This content is sent directly from your browser to OpenAI's API using your own API key. It is not sent to us. We have no infrastructure to receive it. Your use of the OpenAI API is governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

3. Your OpenAI API Key

Your API key is stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. It is never transmitted to us or any party other than OpenAI when you make an AI request. You can remove it at any time from the Settings tab.

4. CRM and Task Data

All CRM entries, tasks, settings, and preferences are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device. We cannot access it.

5. Permissions Explained

storage — Saves CRM entries, tasks, settings, and your API key locally in Chrome.
scripting, activeTab — Reads the currently open email in Gmail when you click an action button. Only activated when you click — not passively reading your inbox.
tabs — Detects when you're on Gmail so the extension knows when to be active.
host_permissions (mail.google.com) — Required to inject the action toolbar into Gmail and read the open email. No other domains are accessed.

6. What We Do NOT Do

We do not read your inbox passively — the extension only acts when you click a button
We do not store your emails anywhere
We do not sell, share, or transmit your data to any third party
We do not use analytics or tracking tools
We do not have access to your Gmail account credentials

7. Third-Party Services

OpenAI — Used only for the AI draft feature, only when you click Draft Reply or Do Everything, and only via your own API key. See openai.com/privacy.

Lemon Squeezy — Used for Pro plan payments only. Your payment details are handled exclusively by Lemon Squeezy.

No other third-party services are used.

8. Data Deletion

Use "Clear All Data" in the Settings tab to delete all CRM and task data. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data permanently, including your API key.

9. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under 13.

10. Changes
